Jenny Lewis @ the 9:30 Club

Jenny Lewis
Live @ the 9:30 Club
Thursday June 11
Tickets on Sale April 3 @ 10am

The last time Jenny Lewis graced the stage of the 9:30 Club she was supported by her well-received group Rilo Kiley. Over a year has passed since Rilo Kiley sold out 2 consecutive nights and wrapped up a critically acclaimed and box office killing tour. After wrapping up the tour, Lewis went back into the studio to release her latest solo effort "Acid Tongue." Melding the sounds of country and rock with folk lyrics and the unmistakable sound fans have grown to love of her voice, Jenny Lewis assures her sophomore album will not dissapoint, and I have a feeling her live show will be equally as memorable. Definitely worth checking out.

New Show Announcement: Gavin Rossdale

Gavin Rossdale
Live at the 9:30 Club | Sunday May 3rd

Last December Gavin Rossdale made a very quiet stop to the Clarendon Ballroom to play for 99.5s Little Black Dress Christmas Party. The former Bush front man is embarking on a tour with a little more ambition. Gavin will be playing at the 9:30 Club the first Sunday of May. Although the show has not been officially announced by the club, Rossdale's site has the date confirmed but without mention to ticket price, date of ticket sale, or time of the show. With that being said, I will most definitely keep you posted when this information surfaces.

For those of you expecting to hear the driving sounds of Sixteen Stone, you may be dissapointed. However, Rossdale's debut solo album, Wanderlust, is very mature and more subdued with some slight undertones of the rock pop that put him on the cover of the Rolling Stone...well, that and his good looks. While the sound has changed, and his career seems to be moving along in the shadows of his wife (aka No Doubt playing to arenas and 20,000+ amplitheaters), Rossdale has managed to put together a decent album that would most definitely warrant a trip to this show...ok "most definitely" comes from the fact that Rossdale will also be performing a fair amount of Bush's catalogue amidst his solo material.

A really chill version of "Love Remains the Same"
Check out Rossdale's site to hear some of the music.
Or check it out at the iTunes Store

Black Cat Announcement - The Toadies & Around the Horn

The Toadies
Live @ The Black Cat
| Friday May 29, 9:00pm
Ticket(after charges): $18.75

I was lucky enough to get dragged to the 9:30 Club last fall to witness one of the most underrated 90s rock bands of, well, the entire decade. Expecting to see this one (two if you count "Tyler") hit wonder drudge through their set and finish with "Possum Kingdom," I was pleasantly surprised to find that the front half of the club turned into an unrelenting mosh pit, while the upstairs and back were packed with individuals singing along to their energy-laden tracks. Moral of the story, this is one band you will not want to miss...especially at an intimate venue like the Black Cat. For under $20, you are guaranteed to have a great time. The Toadies newest album, No Deliverance is just as good as their 90s predecessors, and their live act, captured on 2 new live CDs (both available on iTunes) will give you a better idea of their energy.

Do yourself a favor and check out their website, and listen to some of their newer music on the media player located on the right hand side. Toadies Website

PS. One of DC's finest young talents, Tony Reali of ESPNs Around the Horn and Pardon the Interruption has been spotted moshing with friends at local Toadies shows while chanting "U-S-A!" and "O-ba-ma!" He has been quoted as saying, "My favorite band of all time is a band called the Toadies." One thing is for sure, if you are close enough to the stage, Reali will assure you that you have a highly entertaining night...and one you won't soon forget! How many people get to say they decked "Stat Boy" in a moshpit? This guy for one!

Just Announced: All-American Rejects, Peaches, and more

The All-American Rejects will be stopping by the 9:30 club this April, Tuesday the 28th along with opening act Ace Enders. Expect their new album to yield several overly-produced and insanely poppy singles that will have every 16-24 year old girl (among many many others) dying to get their hands on tickets to this relatively intimate show. When the show is officially announced by the 9:30 Club I will have more information with regards to ticket pricing and the date they go on sale.

To listen to their newest Album check out their Official Website

Peaches, famous for her song 'Fuck the Pain Away' appearing in films such as Lost in Translation and Jackass 2, will be inviting you to go "sucking on [her] titties like you wanted [her]" June 17th (Wednesday). With a combination of high energy dance beats and crude sexually explicit lyrics, one may think that Peaches is the perfect combination of Lady Gaga and Henry Rollins. As more information surfaces, I will be sure to keep you posted.

Check out Peaches and some of her work at her MySpace Page

Fischerspooner has also just announced that they will be stopping by the 9:30 club on Sunday May 10th. The NYC duo has, for almost a decade now, been mastering their "retro electropop" sound, and will be releasing their 3rd full length album "Entertainment" a week prior to the show. More information on the show to come.

Fischerspooner's Webpage

As announced very passively in the last 9:30 club email Cake will be performing Saturday May 30th at the 9:30 Club. Tickets are on sale for $46.50 after charges. You can purchase yours Here

Grizzly Bear tickets also have just gone on sale for their show Sunday June 1st. For $22.75 you can see this seasoned Indie band perform songs off their upcoming album, Vecatimest. Buy tickets Here
